I could not agree more. Indeed, I would go even further and permit a simple
EPSG code as a suitable definition of the geodesy. EPSG:4326 is all you need
to specify WGS ellipsoid, datum etc.

Lucky you. I attempted to get an account a few weeks back, but got no
response, so I was precluded from contributing, which is a pity as we
have dedicated geodesists who have decades of experience in this field.
I guess the webmaster is too busy.

Hi Mike,
We regularly have this issue at our shop. We attempted to preserve UTM
coordinates across long distances such as fibre cables across the
pacific, but if you have a very large spatial set, which spans multiple
CRS' it really is better to use a global CRS such as WGS geographicals.

guy in our shop who knows the procedure very well.

Hi
I agree adding something like 'datum = "WGS84" is very easy for
modellers to adopt, but in geodetics terms this is very ambiguous.
While it is simple, it is simply not enough.
If you want simple, a solid approach is EPSG codes.
Take a look at the openlayers examples at:

hi
IMHO WKT or SRID's are fine. I appreciate the principle of
self-description, so WKT would do be better suited.

I see this as well worn ground. EPSG, GDAL, Proj, ESRI and others can
use WK
. Best leave that to the experts in
that field.
I would fully support wkt.

Subject: Re: [CF-metadata] Question on metadata for coordinate
Hi,
I have been trying to figure out the correct mechanism for the representation
of coordinate reference system (CRS) metadata.
I read the online documents for CF conventions. It talks about the definition
of a few CRS's but there are many and some are highlt complex (eg NZ MapGrid).
While we
For what it is worth, we migrated a lot of our systems metadata and config to
JSON and it works like a charm. The primary reason was to enable humans and
computers to co exist better. We tried XML but JSON won the day for us.

hi,
I am attempting to map from our existing conventions to CF conventions. Most
of the mappings appear straight forward, but I do have a few curly ones. I
read the "Guidelines for Construction of CF Standard Names" page, but it did
not help my situation.
As you can see, I may 'Easting" t
