Dear Elodie, Thank you for reminding me about the two geostrophic names. I agree that these two are pretty straight forward. At Nan's suggestion, I've expanded slightly on our standard definition text of "geostrophic", bearing in mind that it applies equally to ocean and atmosphere circulation.

Dear all, I would like to suggest the addition of two new standard_names to describe geostrophic sea water velocities. Standard_names exist for the surface velocities (|surface_geostrophic_eastward_sea_water_velocity and surface_geostrophic_northward_sea_water_velocity ), but not for the 3D ones.
