onsessionstart not being called with j2ee session variables

We're seeing some weird behavior on one of our applications. It looks like if we check "use j2ee session variables" in the admin, the our Application.cfc's onSessionStart() isn't called. (I put a dump and an abort in onSessionStart() to verify it). Is there something different about j2ee variab

Nope. (I had done everything fresh except for actually deleting the jsessionid cookies, but removing all of my cookies didn't fix the issue) Any other things? We can put in some kludge code in onrequeststart() to look for the existence of one of the session variables and manually call onsesionst
