Use Ajax. You can call a CF function with it which will perform the DB
Query and return the results. Then call another CF function to populate
form fields.

or, if the amount of data is minimal and not subject to change between
requests, you could create javascript objects or arrays to hold the
query data. Then when the form changes, the javascript changes the
form fields.
