xmlFormat question

Does nayone remember how XMLFormat worked in cf5? It seems to be getting rid of all carriage returns and line feeds. I thought it just got rid of cr, and left linefeeds in place? Also, does anyone know the correct links to cf5 livedocs? The links on the cfmx7 version to the old set take you to
