Hack Housing: Empowering Smarter Decisions – A Weekend Hackathon (sponsored by
Zillow and UW)

Zillow and the department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University
of Washington, with participation from the White House, U.S. Department of
Commerce and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), will host a
weekend hackathon at Zillow’s HQ, February 6-8, 2015.

Participating developers and designers will be tasked with creating
transparency around thousands of local and federal data sets, to help people in
their housing decisions. As part of the event, participants will have access to
newly released government data sets on topics like federal housing programs;
apartment buildings with accessible apartments; and transit information. In

addition, Zillow will make available its data on home values and rents.

Zillow co-founder Rich Barton will open the event by sharing his experience in
the tech and housing sector and his success in bringing power to the people
across a number of industries. After a day and a half of hard work,
participants will present their solutions to a judging panel of local tech
leaders, entrepreneurs and federal government officials specializing in
big/open data.

The winning team will receive a $10,000 prize.
