Update:
Got tbe #8 cylinder to
respond to removal of the plug wire. In case anyone's interested, I
had relocated the PCV to a manifold vacuum source shared by the #8 runner -
which killed the fuel signal.
Also swapped intakes,
adjusted valves, replaced points, cap, rotor, coil, plugs
Couldn't have said it better!

Install dist. Remove the #1 spark plug and plug the hole with your finger.
Slowly turn the engine over (clockwise) until pressure is felt. Remove your
finger and continue slowly turning the engine until you reach the timing mark

I found that the #1 cylinder was on the compression stroke because it would
make a loud rushing noise of air...kinda like an air hose. That would be
the compression stroke right. Thanks for the advice. I want to get this

Only 80 dollars??
Seems you got off cheap. My wife drives a 97 sebring conv. and the d!#ge dealer gets 75 dollars an hour to work on it. I said, "gee, what did I drive in here in, a Lamborgini"
As a matter of fact, when her head gasket developed an oil leak(WHAT?)
it cost upwards of $900

sounds like the #1 cyl was on the top of the exhaust stroke not the
compression stroke, that would make all your ingition wiring wrong.

was going to trade her in for a pair of 20's. She replied " You aren't wired for

I know there are some very knowledgeable and experienced people on
this list. I highly suggest you tell us what the symptoms are that you
are experiencing and see if some of the better guys than me can come up
with the answer for you. Maybe some things to try or a way to

this was one of the reasons I wanted a car that I could work on myself. I
finally had to give up on trying to find this problem I'm having w/ my 67

Do you happen to know what the backspacing of those wheels is. Also, did you need to raise the back end any?
Much appreciated.

you can get them at any parts store but originally (at least on my 66 and
all the other Chevys I have worked on, only way I've seen it) it had a nut
welded to the control arm. I ended up breaking one of mine when I had my
front end apart and I ended up at first jerryrigging it to where I took
