If your car pops or backfires when you
whack the throttle the problem could be the accelerator pump. Make sure the
accelerator pump is flowing fuel through the whole throttle stroke. A bad
accelerator pump will cause a temporary lean condition which will cause the
engine to pop.

Interesting. My '66 was restored by a previous owner in the mid-80's, and he
removed the plate and the bolts. The plate is now hinged along the back
window side, and opens with a latch. The support is not needed seeing as the
plate is relatively thick diamond plate sheet metal.

Hi Ryan,
My 69 is nearly 'done', if there is such a thing. I still need
to install some exterior trim, sun visors, and other little things.
Then I'll likely add a radio/speakers, maybe A/C, etc. Right
now, I'm just wanting to drive it and not work on it. :-)
Hey Clint, I'm pretty sure ther
No, I must admit, I haven't. I'm hoping to get an improved ride, but also
the ability to raise and lower the car to have some fun, and tune the
handling characteristics. The latest reviews of the Airride suspension
indicate that the handling is better than stock, but that may be marketing
hype.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I
think there are three V8 frame mounts,,307", 327" or 350",and BB. For some
reason,I'm thinking a 307" frame mount is different from one for a
350".
Anyone?

Clint,
I apologize, I am in the habit of calling them
motor mounts. I meant frame mounts. The ones that bolt onto the
crossmember of the frame. Sorry. If you have any advice or tricks
for swapping small block for big I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Ryan
Ryan, are you talking about motor mounts or frame
mounts?

Michael,

Michael,
Thanks for the info on the motor mounts. I
was reading on the net about swapping the motors and had come to the same
conclusion. How is the 69 coming? Thanks again.
Ryan
I swapped a 307 for a 454 in my 69, and had to change the motor mounts.
I'm sure you will have to also.
There are 2 styles/sizes. The 283/307/327/350 uses one (I think),
and the big blocks use the other.
Regardless, I'm sure you'll need the other mounts and frame brackets.

I have been hearing different opinions on motor
mounts. Do you or dont you need to change motor mounts or their positions
when swithing from small block to big block? I have a 68 chevelle that
originally had a 307. I am considering dropping a 396 into it. I am
not sure now if the motor m
I don't know where you inferred in any of my posts that implied QA1's were
better or even equal to Konis or Bilsteins.
If all you're interested in is a better ride,I would stay with the present
coil springs. If you have the funds and want the best ride, install an air
ride system.

I just did a frameoff on a 67 Vette. I built a box for the
frame out of 2 x 12s and short 4 x 4s for legs and heavy casters. It worked
great and only took maybe an hour to build. Now that the car is finished I
unbolted it and used the wood for other purposes.
