Yep, drum brakes suck. While rebuilding the suspension, consider going for
a disc brake upgrade in front. Also, check the back brake shoes for oil.
The seals may have deteriorated and let oil from the rear end out to the
shoes. It's likely you'll need to replace leaking wheel cylinders, but they

Steve, thanks for the pointers... you pretty much covered my plan... I
mentioned in my post about converting the front to disc
and putting a booster on it. I'd looked at the horn relay and figured
there was more going on there than just the horn.
I'm planning at some point to rewire the entire

Krister,
I scanned three pages out of my 66 Chassis Service
Manual and posted it on the web. This book covers Chevrolet, Corvettes and
Chevelles, so look for the notes specific to Chevelles. What you want starts on
the bottom of page one. If your browser automatically reduces the image
The facts are GM did not offer solid lifter engines with a/c. Only way to
prove otherwise is if you have your car's build sheet and Protect-plate. Do you
have those?

Yesterday was a perfect day, no wind high of 86 degrees, (insert gratuitous chevelle fact here) I got the walk door windows installed in my garage. Today wind is blowin 30MPH and the high will be 35 degrees. Where else can you get such variety in life G ??
SW Missouri is about the same. Yesterday is was 66 at 7:30 am when I got the
bike out for the trip to work. Last night at 5 pm it was 29 when I headed
home. What is the wind chill at 75 mph?

The chart I looked at only goes 60mph. At that
speed, your 29 would have felt like 9 degrees or so.
