Al:
You may have picked up a foreign object. Last one i pulled apart(after
losing oil pressure) had a hydraulic lifter spring in it.It slipped right
through the screen and snapped the shaft when it entangled in the oil pump
gears. you may want to pull some rod and main caps just to make sure
Somewhere else to start looking is the pump driveshaft and see if it's
binding up. An oil pump locking up is very unusual.

you'll want to find out why it happened when you pull the pan look for any
metal. then with pump out spin motor [se if it spins] put the new oil pump
in and prime only way to see if you lucked out.

Well gu
I guess I stand corrected. All I did was take a precision micrometer and
personally gauge the sheet metal on my Chevelle.

Yes, I'm using it to make my own panels. Metals Supermarket just sells
metal; not patch panels.
When I was getting started (learning to weld, patch etc), I went to our
local Metals Supermarket and said I needed some metal for some body
work. The owner said that most body shops use 18-20 gauge.
I watch a lot of metal working shows, and read tons of magazines (I'm also
into street rods which do a lot of this work) on this subject. The usual
metal is 18 gauge 'cold rolled' steel. It a bit easier to shape, and weld.

I've actually checked all the metal I've replaced
on my 69's with a micrometer (after removing all paint w/ no rust deterioration.
The sheet I've tested was from fender, quarter, and trunk. All the original GM
steel is 20g. All the after market replacements from both Goodmark and DII is 21
