Overdrive is the way to go.  The 4L60E is computer controlled, so you will need to either adapt the stock electronics or buy an aftermarket controller.  The controllers can get pretty expensive.   The TH350 would be simpler & cheaper.    I'm reasonably sure that the 4L60 is the same basic case as

I am just about ready to start my '68 project and I am begining to question my powertrain options. I wanted to rebuild the origional 327, but I have a nice 350 from a '73 Camaro sitting on a stand. Which made me think about combining the two engines (350 block and lower end with the 327 heads
