I was introduced to Pertronix ignition systems in the 1980s when my racing partner and I installed one in our 1967 Chevelle 327 cid drag race car.  Max rpm was supposed to be 6000 but we ran the motor up to 7500 for several years with no problems.  We never looked under the dist. cap for 2-3
