Thomas check your chevelle maintenance manual for torque on the chevlle spindles. Trailer will be similar. As I recall, tighten them to (for example) 12-15 ft lbs (inch pounds??) . Then Back off the nut just enough so you can insert the cotter key. You want to apply enough torque to
