Crate train him. We are continuing to do it with Brutus and let him out
everytime we get home and after his naps we take him over to the pee pad or
outside. Everytime he goes real close or on the pad we give him a treat and
praise the snot out of him. There are tons of websites out there and
Hey Kellie welcome to the group.
For Brutus, we are crate training him. So everytime he wakes up from a nap
or eat or every hour we take him to the pad or outside. We say, "potty" and
when he does do the business have a treat read for him. Be consistent and
vigilant! Brutus caught on really

Michelle and Henry,
That is too funny! Get the camera and send it off to Animal Planet's Most
Funniest Animals. You can at least get a T shirt out of it! Thank for the
compliment about the crate thing. Like I have said, I respected her comment
but
just took offense to being called cruel.
Welcome Carl,
Sounds like a busy household!

Hello gang,
Our Chi Brutus was named after three things. We are Ohio State Buckeye fans.
So the mascot is named after Brutus the Buckeye. Laurice had a wonderful
dog named Brutus. Brutus was a farm dog (mutt) and one of the smartest dog I
have ever seen. The dog knew how to kill skunks wit
You dog howls? I am jealous! I love when a dog howls. My miniature schnawser

I have noticed in several books and web sites that are giving pet advice that
there are two camps. Those who swear by crate training and those who think it
is cruel. I can see you are pretty passionate for the latter and that is fine.
I know that you mean well. Neither of them are right or w
Hello gang,
Brutus is crate trained. Throughout the night and day when he is not outside
of the crate he listens to the radio. I tried to find a calming radio station
so we put on WKSU in Kent. They play classical and NPR. It seems to keep him
company, no crying after the second day in the
No judge nor jury here. Reese and I have a Marble Long hair cat Cinnamon that
sleeps with us. She is a rescue as well. It was someone's cat due to the fact
that it was declawed in the front and spayed. We make sure that the food and
water dish is full before we go to bed or we get no sleep.
LOL... no problem Joy

That is awesome. Our Chi Brutus was a product of two rescued dogs. It is a
good feeling to give something that was going to die or be abandoned a new life
and wonderful home. I had someone ask me if Brutus had papers...I just said
nope a rescue.

Hello GangSnowing here in Akron, Ohio...I guess the 50 degree temps we had
in December are long gone now. (sigh)
Question,
Brutus loves...I mean LOVES cheese. I have read that is okay to give a Chi a
small amount of fat free cheese as a treat. Now how bout feeding the dog fat

Thank you all again for answering the questions that Reese and I had on Brutus.
Now here is some more! LOL
OK...ahem...Brutus is potty trained and doing quite well with it. He is eleven
weeks old. He is doing a nasty habit of pooping and then smuggling his poop
underneath the recliner. La
Lin,
Sorry to hear that. I watched a TV show that showed a tracking dog finding a
cat. Maybe if you get really desparate see if there is a tracking dog that
might be able to find your Chi. I am sorry to hear that. I hope all goes well.

Noelle,
We spent a week off when we got Brutus. #1 was easily done with the praise.
#2 was more of an effort of just staying on top of the situation. We use the
pad and outside. Some say it confuses the dog but I don't think he has a
problem with it. We always say "potty". We put him out
Em,
Thank you so much for the input. You were probably right with the personality
change of dog as an individual and not because of the event.
End up with another one? LOL. Probably, but we got six Siberian Hamsters, one
cat and now Brutus. The house is getting a little full to my likin
Noelle,
We have a harness for Brutus who is 10 weeks old. We had to buy the smallest
harness and then modify it some more so it can fit! LOL. We put it on him for
ten minutes at first and played with him while it was on. The next day it was
15 minutes and played with him so he would be irri
Hey Jen,
I have a ten week old puppy and he was really clingy (ie. underfoot) when we
first got him a six weeks of age. Now he knows that he must be out from under
our feet. He is starting to understand "move" quite well. LOL. He isn't
under our feet much anymore and sits about four fee
Hello Marsha! Thank you so much for answering the questions that I posted. I

Camille,
Thank you for the warm invite all. I look forward to chatting about Chi or
