New issue 8947 by prasenjeet.dutta: Chrome 2.0.169.1 missing "Zoom Text
Only" feature, please bring it back
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=8947

Chrome Version : 2.0.169.1
URLs (if applicable) : n/a
Other browsers tested: Yes
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
      Safari 3:
     Firefox 3: OK
          IE 7:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start Chrome 2.0.169.1
2. Log into Gmail, then go to https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox
3. Press Ctrl+ twice or thrice to zoom
What is the expected result?

The font size should increase, but horizontal scrollbars should not appear.
See Firefox 3's rendering (with text-only zoom enabled) for an example.

What happens instead?

The text quickly zooms to take up all the vertical space. Also, the page
widens horizontally, so one has to use the horizontal scrollbar to view the
entire page.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

Please bring back the text-only zoom feature to Chrome.

Horizontal scrolling is a nuisance, but many HTML page layouts (e.g.,
Gmail, but there are many others) force the browser to widen the page with
full-page zoom. This is the key reason why text-only zoom should remain an
option.

Early builds of Firefox 3 also had this issue; Mozilla decided to put text-
only zoom back as an option because many layouts simply worked better with
it (e.g. Gmail in the steps-to-repro above).

(Note: this was tested on 1280x1024, see attached screenshots in comparing-
zooms.zip for reference)
