Too fiddly.
I like the original idea as long as it doesn't run into problems with
blocking script execution within the page.
This seems like a good idea. Maybe there could also be some visual
indication on tabs as to whether they currently have a save/open
dialog to avoid hunting through all open tabs to find that one tab
where you were going to save that image or whatever.
