!!!! VERY URGENT !!!!

Dear Friends:

Foreign Tourists Harrassed by Thai Army!!!!

Tourists Protecting Akha Villagers!!!!

The Village of Hooh Yoh Akha needs your support.

The fastest means of this support is that you CALL and EMAIL your nearest Thai Embassy and demand the end of the Queen's Royal Project at Hooh Yoh which is a violation of human rights and a massive land grab.  The Project has extended its tenacles to the land of Pah Nmm Village, Pai ah Prai village tea plantations and other village lands.

Westerners in Pah Nmm yesterday said that one westerner was trucked in, forcibly removed from Hooh Yoh, for photographing this "Public" project at Hooh Yoh.

Westerners in Pah Nmm were Italian and Australian, we need this posted to those country sites, Sydney, Rome.

Then the Army went through the home of an Akha family, taking photos, demanding passports, yelling at the people in the house, over nothing that they had done wrong. The family was visibly shaken.

We are also told that army is now camping in Pah Nmm village intermittently.

The sign for Akha Peace and Justice Center is still at the village and we ask for continued support and volunteers to protect the Akha in this region.

Demand an explanation from the Thai Embassy, if Thais wish to continue free movement and travel in western countries. Support the Boycott Thai - Don't Buy Thai policy.

Please forward this email to all lists and alert your government representatives of the plight of the Akha at Hooh Yoh village and the treatment of volunteers and tourists who come to the aid of the Akha. Ask them to demand an explanation from the local Thai Ambassador.

(In 2003 the Queen's Royal Project seized all the land of Hooh Yoh Village in Ampur Mae Fah Luang immediately impoverishing 1500 villagers. This land supplied rich food and income resources to these Akha who had lived in the region 150 years. This seizure was in direct violation of Free, Prior and Informed Consent.  The Akha are paid half of minimum wage to work in the project that is destroying their lands.)

Best we can check, the web site for the Royal Project is not on line. http://www.chaipat.or.th/journal/aug03/hill_e.html

Your assistance to the Akha is a matter of life and death.
