I ended up rebuilding the old 2k3 domain controller and it added just fine on
the first try. Unfortunately I don't have the cycles to troubleshoot this at
the moment. I would say there's a pretty glaring issue though, if it works on
the first try with 2k3, but fails miserably with 2k8 with

For Windows 2008R2, you need to set the lmauth_level to 2
|*# sharectl set -p lmauth_level=2 smb*|
