15-year-old sleeping beauty The picture of Louisa Ball, as published by News of the World WITH her long blonde hair and perfect features, Louise Ball looks like she can be one of Disney maidens - the sleeping beauty. Except that in real life, she is literally one. The 15-year-old suffers from a rare condition called Klein Levin syndrome, which is more commonly known as the Sleeping Beauty syndrome. Once she dozes off, she can sleep for days and cannot be awakened. Her record of being in bed is 13 days. So far, only 1,000 such cases have been diagnosed around the world. While in the fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty has Prince Charming to kiss her to break the spell, Ball is not so lucky. There is no cure for the condition. Physicians said that all she can hope for is for it to clear up as the years go by. How long does she have to wait? Eight years. Or maybe 12, said doctors. Family members relate that because of her special condition, the poor girl has slept through life's important events, such as family vacations and school tests. Published Feb 10, 2010
