GENEVA, February 4. - Some 100 people participated in a forum on the
report Cuba is to present Thursday at the fourth session of the Universal
Periodic Review (UPR) working group of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC).
Fifty-two other countries have already undergone this review. The forum was
sponsored by four Cuban non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and took place in
this city's Palais des Nations; its speakers received the support of colleagues
and diplomats from different countries.

Lourdes Cervantes, of the Organization of Solidarity with the peoples of
Asia, Africa and Latin America (OSPAAAL), emphasized Cuba's ongoing commitment
to developing countries.

For her part, Esther Aguilera, vice president of the Cuban Economists
Association, gave an extensive presentation referring to the direct impact of
the U.S. blockade on the country's development.

Carolina Amador, of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), explained the
positive repercussions of the Revolution's social project in making equal
rights for women a reality.

During the forum, a multimedia disc was made available to participants
containing documents and speeches on Cuba's progress in all aspects of human
rights, along with a documentary by Argentine director Carolina Silvestre.

This Thursday, Cuban Justice Minister María Esther Reus is to present a
summary of the report and listen to comments from delegates participating in
the discussion.

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuban first deputy foreign minister, is also
part of the Cuban delegation here, along with Deputy Attorney Rafael Pino
Bécquer; Boris Moreno, deputy minister of communications; and Marcia Enríquez,
