i think this might be related to the problem i was having.. it was
pointed out to me on irc that this is a problem with recent cinelerra
versions and a lack of compatibilty with libx11 with libxcb support built in

I can report the same performance issues on Gentoo Emerge packages and
current svn. Turn of Compiz and run as root, that seems to work for me.
There was a ubuntu kludge that involves downgrading LibX11 recently posted
on this list but I can't find it .
