In Ubuntu Karmic, Viewer does not work in ALL six versions .
What distro do you use to get 4.1 CV Viewer working Frank?
Where can I find 4.1 CV (I can't find it anywhere - I'm missing something !)

try this link to download the 4.1 CV version.
Worked for me, as I had the same problem.
git clone git://git.cinelerra.org/j6t/cinelerra.git my_cinelerra
