I spent some time in IRC last night and someone guided me through the process
of compiling libx11. As far as I can tell, everything went well and I'm able
to use Cinelerra once more.

Compiling libx11 is not something anyone wants to undertake lightly, it
being a huge cornerstone of your entire ditro. If it's your first time
with compiling on linux, I'm sorry but I can't recommend you attempt it.
First of all try the following:
1.run cinelerra on a 64 bit distro
