We did this in a large implementation of Catalyst switches using a mixture of ISL and dot1q and works fine with no problems. We used ISL between 6500s and 6500s, dot1q 3500s to 6500s and 3500s between 3500s. I assume this should be the same for what you are implementing. Just change the trunking pr
