Yes, we've been doing it for a couple years. The only issues we have run into are with using 2924XL switches. When you are running token ring, the connectors automatically loopback when they are disconnected so that the ring is not broken. The 2924XL switches have a bug that causes the port

Yes, we are doing the same thing, although we are using patch cables with IBM connectors on one end and RJ-45 on the other. The only problem is if you are using 2924XL switches. If you are using those, and someone disconnects a patch cable form the wall, the type 1 connector loops back (this
