That really depends. I have always preferred using hardware RAID. If that is the case, the OS is fairly ignorant of what is going on. The main consideration is whether drivers exist for the NOS that you are using. NT 4 has the ability to do sofware RAID. If you are going that route then you are a bit more limited. However, the most common RAID types that I see on networks are 0,1 & 5.
