A quick question about the CCNP exams... How much of the covered material
is IOS specific versus knowledge about protocols etc. I guess the real
question is how difficult is it to pass the exams without spending a gob of
cash on lab equipment?
Thanks
Ken

For a CCNP/CCIE lab, is a 508-CS sufficient to act as a terminal server or
is it better to go for the 2509/11?
Thanks,
Ken

Steven:
I used the CCDA Study Guide by Syngress/Osborne (ISBN 0-07-212159-9) and the
CCDA Designing Cisco Networks (ISBN 1-57870-105-8) and thought that combined
they offered good coverage.
Best of luck,

I have a 2505, IOS 10.2(6) which I am attempting to add more Flash RAM to in
order to run a more current IOS. I purchased an 8 MB chip, but when I
install it and boot the router up I get the following error that doesn't
occur with the current 4 MB chip:
ERR: Invalid chip id 0x80B5(reversed: 0x1
>From what I have heard from other CCNPs and CCIEs is that, as with all
things networking, it depends. It primarily depends on your current
experience level with the various technologies which are covered, i.e. if
you do a lot of work with switching, start there. However, in general and

You would need an ISDN Line Simulator.

True, true, but it certainly beats the $38.00 that they charge at the local
electronics store. It has always amazed me at the price that we in the IT
field pay to avoid the "hassle" of making cables/connectors, i.e. Cisco
charges $100 for an AUX/Console cable kit.
Anyway, just my opinion.
Ken
If I am not mistaken, you need to obtain a Token Ring Media Filter that has
DB9 Female on one end and RJ45 Female on the other.
They run $15.00 at http://www.optsys.net/.
Tell Brad I sent you.

My understanding of how most switches work is that one port is mapped to one
MAC address, correct? If this is indeed true, what happens when you attach
a hub to a switch port? I know that it is still functional, but what does
the switch do for the additional hub MAC addresses that are hanging of
quot; and a few minutes latter it will come up with
"lcp state = LISTEN".
I know I am new to this level of networking, but I am at a complete loss as
to what to look for or change. Any help would be VERY much appreciate.
Please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED] as well as to this group.
Thanks
