I've seen similar when one or both ethernet ports are set to autosensing. It
was resolved by setting them both to the same speed and mode.

We had a problem where we replaced a "FDDI/10base-FL" card in our 3Com
Corebuilder 5000. After this change out the IPX packets started getting
corrupted. Only the IPX packets traversing the FDDI ring were affected. It
turned out to be a bug in the firmware of the card.
