Al, I was in the CCIE Power session at Networkers on Friday and without a doubt you need the EMI version. To use their words They will now have a 24 port router. The EMI version is the only version that does Layer 3 switching. Message Posted at:

You should go ahead and take it on the Nov.5. Just make sure you spend some time working on the 3550 EMI. There will be two of them in each pod and you will have to route between VLANs. The good new is that you will not have to do any CatIOS (simple but still). Message Posted at:
