Jason,
The Catalyst series of switches does not have a startup versus running
system config.
Commands typed at the command line are saved to NVRAM immediately,
meaning a restart will not get you back to an earlier version of a
config .

Chuck,
That's too bad. I hope it was not someone from this list that did it.
Did somebody just hose the config with a wrong command, or was it worse?
Can you recover by copying start to run, or tftp an older config to it?
I hope this does not kill the spirit of sharing here. It's a really nice

To reallocate a router id, you can 'write mem', go to config mode and do
'no router ospf xx'.
Then 'copy start run'.
Your OSPF process is back, with the correct RID.
It avoids the time cost of a reload.
Hope this helps!

Mindiani,
In this configuration, there is no switch sending LMI to the routers.
The router declares the line protocol down after three missed keepalive
intervals (10 seconds each, by default).
One way to fix this problem in back-to-back frame relay configs is to
add "no keepalive" under the ser
Cory,
It works on broadcast networks because proxy arp is on by default.
Meaning, when the packet wanting to leave the router needs a MAC address
for encapsulation, the router has to stop and send an arp request to ask
"who has this route?". All the routers on that segment will then have to
