Hiya, Im CC'ing this mail to the PR training chap at cisco for his reference. Im not publishing the faq site after all until I get permission etc. from cisco to use their trademarks (I hadnt realised I needed to get written permission etc. to use all the certification names etc.) I dont want to annoy them as I wouldnt mind working for them at some point in my career :) The FAQ site project is on hold until I hear back from them as I understand a number of other sites were asked to close down, and the name cisco-help.net may be viewed as a trademark infringement (from what I hear it probably will, so Ive removed the web address that was in DNS for it) - I have to work this one out, but hopefully Ill get an OK from cisco. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help provide information. Hopefully we'll get going again soon. hmmmm. Im thinking heavily about this. Technically both of the newsgroups are a trademark infringement, and Im wondering how many poster's and webmasters have got written permission to uss CCNA, CCNP etc. before typing them out. Anyone providing info (i.e. answering a question) and using the trademark doing so is violating that trademark as far as I can see, although Im not a lawyer, this is just how Im interpreting what Ive been told. Also how many company's out there are there with cisco or ccwhatever in their name? Im hoping that as Im attempting to create this site as a study guide, Ill just have to follow the application procedure like book publishers do (UK law puts websites with book publishing etc.) My aim is just to put up some good cisco study material, and links to other sites of use, but Im not sure how I could do a study guide about cisco certifications (or an FAQ for the alt.cert.cisco group) without mentioning any of the trademarks! Everyone keep your fingers crossed Ill be able to proceed with just some controls like www.sunhelp.com have. Im sure cisco, being something of an internet phenomenon have drawn up guidelines on their names being used on the internet.
