INTERESTING,

The 6509 Switches have the option of having NAM (Network Analysis
Module) and IDS (Intrusion detection system) cards.
(i.e. 6509- Switch, Router, NMS, IDS etc. on one box)

>From Cisco's Web site

"An illuminated hard drive activity LED indicates that the hard drive is
in use."

"To prevent corruption of the NAM, it is critical that the NAM run
through the shutdown procedure before shutting off. If the NAM fails to
respond to CLI or NAM shutdown commands, you can use the Shutdown button
as an alternative shutdown method. "

(Hard drive ?? What OS/IOS would require a hard drive... (The mind does
wonder ;-) )

You cannot JUST POWER OFF SOME SWITCHES...
It all depends what switching platform you have, and what options you
have installed...

Hope this helps,

Aki

Just turn them off or simply unplug them.

Fortunately the IOS was not written by Microsoft and nothing will get
corrupted!!!
