hey folks no flames huh . I know it's real world but it will help me out
and this is a real project so we can all learn from this.
once I finish the proposal I will throw it on a web site for all to see

Ok all the design wannabes

Customer has TI 2501 old Vinca T1 ds/csu 36 ports ( only used 26 ports)
(old hubs and junk) moving to new location
has mail server
Apps server
file server (To be added)
few printers ( most local to the machines) total of 4 on network
20 desktops with 10/100 nics
NT environment
TCP/IP
No current issues regarding network everyone uses the net OK and the speed
is fine.
moving to a new building which will have 36 ports in the walls
++++++++++++++++++
Customer wants
 Switched environment
Needs remote secure dialup for 2 folks but may in the future have a few more
maybe 6 to 12 months down the road
12 months or more may have another remote location maybe 2
Freaked out on security and want heavy duty firewall solution .
internet access.
Talk of VOIP but just talk for now..
Think about VIOP to big client in Switzerland max time about 2 hours a
day.

2621 Router 1 CISCO2621
Smart Net 8x5 4 hour 1 CON-SNTP-PKG5
T1 module 1 WIC-1DSU-T1=

IP/FW IOS 1 CD26-CHL-12.0.7=
Misc cables and adapters

16 meg Dram upgrade MEM2600-16D

PIX 515R includes (2) 10/100 ports PIX-515-R-BUN
Smart Net 8x5 4 hour CON-SNTE-PKG10
Cisco Secure VPN Client VPN-SW-DES-100=
 Catalyst 3548 XL Switch 1 WS-C3548-XL-A WS-C3548-XL-EN
Smart Net 8x5 4 hour 1 CON-SNTE-PKG6
Patch cables 96
Cat 6 to be installed and 48 port block on rack
Money is NOT the first issue here long term capabilty is tho as
Managment see IT infrastructure as an investment in the future.
Of coure the CFO sees otherwise but the CEO will sign the check (grin)

the VOIP deal would be more cost effective to use existing pots lines as
the BW cost would choke .
long distance for couple of hours a day is fairly cheap
But I want a router that we can grow to if the other office come online
cause we may use VIOP there .
I didnt include modems in the router cause the cost of the 8 port card is
high and when the need is there we can always add it.
But give a me good reason and I could add it ?????
the switch give a 25% expansion capabilty with no change.
Pix is way overkill but the customer want the best he can get ..and in the
big picture the 5k or so is not an issue for security
A couple of modems dialing up RAS to NT
Qusetions I have
Do I need the IP IOS with firewall with a PIX box ??
What have I missed ??
be gentle it's my first quote
the other 3 proposals I wrote all got accepted (grin) so I am on a roll
here..
I know I could have uses the 2501 but it still would not have solved the
VOIP issue
and had no expandability and hey I need it for my LAB (grin)
