Question about upgrading Boot flash and System image. [7:1436]

Hi,

I upgraded my old 7507 with 12.0.16GD software for a week, but I did
not upgrade it's bootflash (it is still a pretty old 11.1.6)...

I heard from some of my engineering friends that, when I upgrade the
IOS, it is better to upgrade the bootflash together. Is it true??

Is there any undesirable effect if I just upgrade the IOS but not the
bootflash?
