The 2948G-L3 runs IOS and is really a 50 port router.  The 2948(I believe)
runs the cat 5000 firmware.  I'm not real sure exactly what you are trying
to do, but if you are wanting VLAN information you will need to do either
ISL or 802.1Q.  To use the 2948G-L3 as a "switch" you will have to configure
BVI interfaces and bridge groups.
