Never used "NO IP REDIRECTS", BUT I have used "NO IP DIRECTED-BROADCAST"
to prevent spoofing attacks to your network, but maybe I can learn a little
something from your question as well.

It just stops ICMP redirects from being sent.
Here is a scenerio:
hostA 192.168.1.50
routerA e0 192.168.1.1 (hostA's gateway)
routerB e0
A router sends an ICMP Redirect frame to a host to tell the host that the
host has a more direct route to a destination.
In the Redirect frame, the router says which device the host should send
the frame to. In some cases, the host can reach the destination directly.
