you are right. only especific NICS will support this feature. i don't know about ANY company that is suing this technology. I can remember that it is based in an MAGIC (it's the real name...) ethernet packet destined to yopur MAC Address. Maybe there is more info at 3com's site -Mensaje

Does the NIC have to support it: Yes. It requires a 3 wire Wake-On-Lan connector on the motherboard and NIC. Additionally, it normally requires an ATX motherboard that supplies trickle current to the PCI bus when the PC is off. Is it a handy thing to have? To show off to other Netowrk Types

The NIC and mb must both support the WOL feature to use it. It seems with the newer version (PCI 2.2), you don't need to use a cable, but with earlier PCI versions, you do. I've known people who claimed to use it for software distribution off hours and weekends, but I've never actually used it
