There was a recent post about this just in the past couple of days.  Suffice
to say, Asynchronous requires each end to keep their own clock source, while
with synchronous one end acts as the clock for the other end, and they stay
synchronized.

A Group-Async port is a way to give a series of commands to many async ports
all at one time.
