They are also used in route redistribution (to announce the right route in the right place) and policy routing (to route a packet with certain defined characteristics somewhere else than default routing, for example, to route http traffic to a cache). It's chapter 14 on Doyle's book. Francisco. S

You can use in conjunction with access-lists to force traffic in a certain direction. For instance, I have a customer with a multiple ethernet port router and a firewall on one of those ports. I can use the route-map statements along with access-lists to force certain traffic through the firewal
