You could be working in a large corp doing long term design management BW allocations etc..meetings meetings and more meetings to decide on meeetings You could be in a small corp doing last mile stuff There is really no hard and fast answer.. As a rule of thumb the smaller the company whether it be consulting or staff the scale is smaller but the path is broader.. IE. Nothing bigger than 36xx and 6xxx The larger company the scale is bigger but the path is more narrow.. Nothing less than ATM and huge switches. Best way is to grill the corp and ask to talk to some of the other engineers.. When I did consulting for reseller , it was a little of everything and on the bigger jobs I did rack and stack and got the boxes to talk to each other then the big guns came in and did all the REAL work (sigh). thats why I do training..
