Title: RE: telnetting to directly connected router

I dont think while telnetting you have to give subnet masks,

CDP can work to check data link layer connectivity if using cisco devices,

I tried in an NT based network using New bridge switches u can still ping the address using same range address with different subnet masks.

Subject: telnetting to directly connected router

hi guys,

One very simple question but just curious as to why, if I have two routers
say,

E.g.

        172.12.2.0 /30
RA===========================RB

.1                                                        .2

this got no problem telnetting because RA and RB on same subnet

what if I accidently type in 172.12.2.2 and a mask of 255.255.0.0

will I still be able to telnet to RB from RA , answer is most likely no
because they are not in the same subnet anymore

so can anyone know how to solve this problem since RB is very far from RA
and I can't possibly travel there

thanks

Jason
