SNMP Design [7:46214]

I wanted to find out what the consensus is on SNMP polling of routers with large amounts of interfaces. If you have a 7513 with around 400 interfaces, what is the best method of determining interface state? I would think that traps or informs would be the best method, so that the router is not b
