Another day on the Long Road. Another mystery solved. distribute-list gateway
A search on CCO turns up only this link - utterly useless http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/ong/on_15300/ons15304/304cmr ef/33eapp.htm but persistence pays off. the command seems to behave the way I had postulated it should before I set out to discover it's meaning. the distribute-list gate command appears to be a means of limiting the sources from which a particular router received updates. Observer the following: Router_2#sh ip eigrp neighbors IP-EIGRP neighbors for process 124 H Address Interface Hold Uptime SRTT RTO Q Seq Type (sec) (ms) Cnt Num 0 149.24.2.1 Se0 13 03:09:12 1 5000 0 131 Router_2# note that there is a neighbor relationship router eigrp 124 network 149.24.0.0 network 152.2.0.0 distribute-list gateway GATE149_TEST in no auto-summary no eigrp log-neighbor-changes ! ip prefix-list GATE149_TEST seq 5 permit 149.5.1.1/32 ! note that the distribute-list gateway requires reference to a prefix-list, and the prefix-list in question permits only a particular host, which is NOT the eigrp neighbor router. Router_2#show ip route eigrp Router_2# notice there are no eigrp routes in the routing table. now when I make a couple of changes router eigrp 124 network 149.24.0.0 network 152.2.0.0 distribute-list gateway GATE_TEST_REAL in no auto-summary no eigrp log-neighbor-changes ! ip prefix-list GATE_TEST_REAL seq 5 permit 149.24.2.1/32 ! Now I have eigrp routes up the wazoo.
