dialer interface as a backup link

Deal all I was wondering why some people use dialer interface as a backup interface. I think If there were serial interface as well as bri interface, serial can be used as primary and bri can be used as backup interface. Is there any advantage of using dialer interface as backup interface? Thanks

Title: RE: dialer interface as a backup link You can use the dialer interface to configure mulitple backup interfaces with one configuration vice having to configure each backup interface.  If you only have one serial and one bri, I find it a bit less confusing to not use the dialer interface
