I had the same problem with my laptop and I found a solution that works for me. You can buy a pcmcia card that has RS-232 ports for about $100. My card gives me dual serial ports for around $130. You may be able to find something cheaper if you shop around. http://www.silicom.co.il/Products/srs.h
