each man paid $9. Therefore, there are $27 in the pool. Then manager take $2 FROM that pool (the $2 is part of the pool, so it is a negative value, instead of the positive value added there), and only $25 left. That is the hotel room price. (The $30 value has nothing to do in this question)

Does anyone know the math the name of the math puzzler that goes like this:   3 guys go to a hotel, the manager says the room is $30. Each guy puts in $10 then go to sleep.   The next manager decides the room is really only $25, but decides to keep $2 for himself.   He then hands each guy bac
