Having recently done this (and moved to IOS15 at the same time), I encourage you to find a spare chassis somewhere and hot-stage the config. Then when you go to make the upgrade it's just a matter of swapping the NPEs and pulling out the old IO controller and you're done. -r Joseph Mays

You haven't mentioned what kind of budget you have, but the first and third options are worth pursuing. If you don't like what the LI feature set can do on the ASR then it's really just the SPAN option, but you can use a product from a vendor like Gigamon to slim the traffic volume down to your
