Possibly an SSL/TLS issue.
Can you get a packet capture of the CUE trying to connect?
CUE traces of the process as well?
Just a guess, but if you don't have a trusted CA installed on the CUE
that trusts Gmail's SSL cert, this probably won't work. Haven't played
with SMTP/ssl on CUE, but this
