You have helped in some way, the fdpass option did make a difference in
that it allowed clamdscan to return the full filename. Before I was just
getting a file descriptor.

What are the permissions on the clamd socket file? You might also try
setting up clamd to listen on an IP/port and connect to it that way if the
unix socket doesn't work.
