the copy in /usr/local/bin

Which suggests you've got a manually installed version in your path.
What does "freshclam --version"
0.80 is the lastest release.
0.81rc1 is just a Release Candidate.

qmail-scanner and the setup is quite simple.
Just download and install
the Clamav with the default options (configure, make, make install). You can run
